The Muskegon Community College volleyball team traveled to Mott Community College to play in the MCCAA State Championship on Saturday.

The Jayhawks won the first match against host Mott by scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-8 and 25-10, then fell to Grand Rapids by scores of 11-25, 22-25, 25-23 and 19-25.

MCC was led by Julie Brown with 16 kills while Jaren Smith added 15.

The Jayhawks were led defensively by Shelby Rasch with 28 digs while Maddie Heiss had three blocks. Katie Veihl dished out 50 assists.

In the title game MCC was paced by Brown with 12 kills while Amber Jacobs had 10. Veihl chipped in with 40 assists and Rasch had 21 digs.

The Jayhawks are now 29-10 on the season and will travel Thursday to Port Huron to play for the regional championships.
