The Muskegon Lumberjacks scored five unanswered third period goals to remain unbeaten on the 2018-19 season.

The Lumberjacks finished strong with a 7-2 victory over Team USA Under-17 squad on Friday at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.

Muskegon is now 8-0 on the season, which is good for 16 points and first place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.

The Lumberjacks will look to continue their winning streak on Saturday night when they host the Team USA Under-18 squad.

Muskegon jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period with goals from Oliver MacDonald and Brock Bremer.

Team USA responded with two unanswered second period goals by Luke Tuch and Ty Smilanic to tie the game 2-2 heading into the third stanza.

The Lumberjacks finished with third period goals from Alex Gaffney, Bobby Lynch, Danil Gushchin, Alex Yakovenko and Cam Knuble.

Muskegon goaltender Brandon Bussi picked up the win in net, stopping 38 of 40 Team USA shots.
