The Montague football team displayed its potent offense in a 49-20 victory over Fennville on Friday in a Division 5 first-round playoff game.

The Wildcats started the scoring with three touchdown runs in the first quarter from Bryce Stark (58 yards), Kenyan Johnston (26 yards) and Sebastian Archer (1 yard) to take a 21-0 lead into the second quarter.

The same trio added four touchdowns in the second quarter, with a 61-yard scoring run from Johnston, a one-yard burst from Archer, and a pair of long touchdowns from Stark (60 and 31 yards) to give Montague a 49-0 lead at the half.

The Cougars scored 20 points in the second half, but it was way too little, too late.

Stark paced the rushing attack for Montague with nine carries for 204 yards and three scores. Quarterback Drew Collins completed seven passes for 83 yards while Johnston added two carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

The defense was led by Brennan Schwarz with four tackles and a sack while Logan Metcalf added two tackles and a sack.

The Wildcats move on to play Newaygo next weekend in a district final game.
