The North Muskegon football team raced past Orchard View 47-22 on Friday in its regular-season finale, and now will wait and hope to sneak into the state playoffs.

The Norse are now 5-4. It takes six wins to gain an automatic berth into the playoffs, but some five-win teams make it. The playoff pairings will be announced Sunday night.

The Norse led 14-0 after one quarter, following an 18-yard touchdown run by Chandler Edwards and a 94-yard scoring pass from Mack Young to TJ McKenzie.

North Muskegon collected two more scores on short runs by Edwards in the second quarter, while Orchard View scored on a 28-yard pass from Owen Swanson to Devin Doss.

The Norse led 27-6 at halftime.

Each team added a TD in the third quarter – North Muskegon on a 28-yard pass from Young to McKenzie, and OV on a one-yard run by Swanson. The score was 34-14 after three.

Edwards added a 33-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. OV scored its last points on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Swanson to Dayton Rose. North Muskegon ended the scoring with a pick-six by De’Shary Warren.

Young completed 7 of 18 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Edwards rushed for 161 yards on 15 carries and McKenzie had three catches for 140 yards.

Swanson completed 12 of 24 passes for 175 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Armony Gutierrez rushed for 173 yards on 23 carries.

Orchard View finished the season with a 2-7 record.
