The Muskegon Lumberjacks opened their three-game weekend road trip with a 4-2 win over the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday night.
The Lumberjacks are now 16-3 on the season, good for 32 points and first place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference. They have an eight-point lead over second place Central Illinois.
Muskegon will continue its road trip on Saturday against the Madison Capitols. Faceoff is slated for 8:05 p.m. EST.
Nolan Sullivan opened the scoring for Muskegon with a goal at the 4:00 mark of the first period.
The Lumberjacks increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Andrei Golikov at the 2:29 mark of the second stanza.
Muskegon increased its lead to 3-0 on Sullivan’s second goal of the evening at the 16:08 mark of the second period.
The Gamblers cut their deficit to 3-2 during the third period with goals from Nick Leitner and Noah Ganske.
The Lumberjacks closed out the scoring at the 19:01 mark of the third period on an empty net goal from Alex Yakovenko.
Kienan Draper, Sullivan and Oliver MacDonald each chipped in for Muskegon with an assist.
The Lumberjacks goaltender Brandon Bussi stopped 22 of 24 Green Bay shots.
Muskegon outshot the Gamblers by a 36-24 advantage.
