The Kent City girls basketball team held on to defeat Coopersville 48-46 on Tuesday in its season opener.
The Eagles jumped out to an 18-14 lead after the first quarter and expanded that lead in the second, heading into the half with a 26-21 lead.
Coopersville cut the deficit to 34-32 heading into the fourth quarter before both teams ended the game with 14 points during the final stanza.
Zara Weber led the Eagles with 17 points while Jenna Harrison chipped in with 15 of her own.
LUDINGTON 35, SHELBY 12- The Orioles led 9-6 at the half, and outscored the Tigers 17-0 in the third quarter to take a 26-6 advantage into the fourth stanza.
Lindsey Holmes led Ludington with 13 points while Zoee Zatarga added five points and three rebounds.
The Tigers were paced by Kendall Zoulek with six points and seven rebounds.
The Orioles are now 1-0 on the season while Shelby is 0-1 on the year.
ROCKFORD 51, SPRING LAKE 35- The Lakers got off to a slow start, as they trailed the Rams 28-7 at the halftime break.
Spring Lake outscored the Rams by a 28-23 margin during the second half but could not get any closer.
Madeline Zenas and Jenna Core led the Lakers in scoring with 16 and 13 each, respectively, while Phoebe Saunders led the team in assists with seven.
The Lakers are now 0-1 on the season.
GRAND RAPIDS CATHOLIC CENTRAL 59, MONA SHORES 34- The Sailors trailed 18-8 after the first quarter, 35-15 at the break and 45-19 heading into the fourth quarter.
Riley Rosenthal led the Sailors with 10 points while Julia Tierman chipped in with five.
The Sailors start the year with a 0-1 record.
MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 47, FRUITPORT CALVARY CHRISTIAN 43- The Spartans led 13-8 after the first quarter and 32-16 at halftime.
Fruitport Calvary responded with a 14-4 third quarter run to cut the deficit to 36-30 heading into the fourth stanza.
Mason County Central held on to claim the season opening victory.
Rachel Allen led the Spartans with 19 points and nine rebounds while Maddy Bladzik added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Brionna Johnson led Fruitport Calvary with 14 points and 14 rebounds while Kelsey Richards added 10 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals.
FREMONT 42, MONTAGUE 31- The Packers took a 16-14 lead into the half and extended that advantage to 26-21 before pulling away in the fourth for the victory.
Calla Miller led the Packers with 12 points and five steals while Chloe Shriver added 11 points. Natalie Jamieson led Fremont on the glass with 10 rebounds.
GRAND HAVEN 55, REETHS-PUFFER 30- Records were set in the Bucs season opener Tuesday night against the Rockets.
Alli Keyser broke the all-time steals record at Grand Haven, recording seven steals and setting the mark at 227.
The Bucs started the game out with an 18-4 lead the end of the first quarter and took a 31-10 lead into the halftime break.
The Rockets offense came alive during the third quarter, outscoring the Bucs 16-6 to cut the deficit to 37-26 heading into the fourth. An 18-point fourth quarter helped the Bucs cruise for the victory.
Keyser led the Bucs with 16 points while Jolee Houle added 11 of her own.
HART 47, PENTWATER 30- The Falcons got out to an 8-7 lead after the first, but the Pirates used a strong second quarter to take a 28-20 lead into the half.
The Pirates outscored the Falcons 11-5 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 39-25 heading into the fourth.
Jayd Hovey led the Pirates with 18 points while Landry Tate added 12.
