The Whitehall girls basketball team did what no other West Michigan Conference team has been able to do for a very long time – beat Oakridge.
The Vikings downed the Eagles 67-56 in a triple overtime thriller on Tuesday, ending the Oakridge winning streak at an incredible 82 games.
The Eagles’ last conference loss before Tuesday was Jan 15, 2013 against Shelby.
The game was tight throughout. Oakridge led 11-10 after one quarter and 18-15 at halftime. The game was tied 34-34 after three quarters and 46-46 at the end of regulation.
Whitehall took control in the third overtime by outscoring the Eagles by 11 points.
Riliegh Thommen led the Vikings with 18 points, including 13 in the second quarter alone. Abby Seeger added 12 points and eight rebounds while Greta Hosticka added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Oakridge was paced by Sophia Wiard, who scored a game-high 34 points in the loss.
