The Mason County Central boys basketball team’s season ended in heartbreaking fashion on Tuesday night in a 44-42 loss to Lake City in a Division 3 district tournament game at Manton High School.

Lake City led 17-14 at halftime and 32-23 after three quarters, before the Spartans roared back in the fourth to make it close.

The Spartans trailed 43-42 and had a chance to pull ahead with five seconds left, but missed two free throws. Lake City then converted a free throw, and a last-second three-point attempt by MCC missed the mark.

Jeffery Carrier had 16 points and nine rebounds for MCC while Bruce Banks chipped in eight points and five rebounds.

Mason County Central finished with the season with a 7-14 record.
