The Spring Lake boys basketball team advanced in the Division 2 district tournament the hard way on Wednesday, rallying and beating Oakridge 60-55 in a double overtime semifinal game at Orchard View High School.

The Lakers, 6-15 on the season, will face Orchard View on Friday at 7 p.m. in the district championship game on the Cardinals’ home court.

Oakridge had the early advantage over Spring Lake on Wednesday, leading 19-9 after one quarter and 24-16 at halftime.

But the Lakers kept clawing back in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 11-6 and trimming their deficit to 30-27 heading into the fourth.

The game was tied with eight seconds left in regulation, and the Eagles had a chance to win, but a 3-point attempt at the buzzer fell short.

The score was tied 50-50 late in the first overtime period when the Eagles once again had a chance to win, but a shot missed the mark with less than a second left, leading to a second OT period.

The Lakers took control at that point, outscoring the Eagles 10-5 to secure the hard-earned victory.

Grant Kieft led the Lakers in scoring with 15 points. Lucas Lyyski also had a big game, scoring 13 points and snagging 15 rebounds, while Sam Sheridan and Kyle Wiersma added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
