The Muskegon Heights boys basketball team clinched the Lakes 8 Conference championship on Wednesday with a decisive 71-46 victory over Western Michigan Christian.

The Tigers only led 17-13 after one quarter, but pulled away in the second and led 32-18 by halftime. They put an exclamation point on the victory by scoring 27 points in the fourth quarter.

Kevon Washington led Muskegon Heights with 16 points and Lamonte Townsend had 12 points, five rebounds, five steals and five blocks. Adding to the Tiger attack were Arlester Sims with 13 points, DeAngelo Hollis with 12 and Jaromeo Blackshire with 10.

Owen Varnado led WMC with 12 points, Kellen Mitchell added 11 points and seven rebounds and Tyler Somers snagged 10 boards.

Muskegon Heights is now 9-7 overall and 8-1 in conference play.

NON-LEAGUE

FREMONT 62, ORCHARD VIEW 46 – Fremont won its16th straight game.

The Packers led 19-12 after the first quarter, then pulled away in the second and led 40-24 at halftime. Fremont’s Calvin Miller scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half.

Logan Karnemaat paced the Packers with 17 points and Braiden McDonald tosssed in 15. Josh Zerfas dished out seven assists.

For Orchard View, Dietrich Thornton had 14 points, Ke’ontae Barnes had 13 and Darius Williams scored 10.

Fremont is now 18-1 and will wrap up the regular season with a game at Chippewa Hills on Friday.

LAKEVIEW 64, HESPERIA 46 – Hesperia’s Logan Balkema piled up 24 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. Jacob Klemundt turned in 15 points, four assists and five steals for the Panthers.

Hesperia fell to 0-18 on the season.
