Whitehall wrestling team rallies past Alma 36-24 in D3 state quarterfinals

The Whitehall wrestling team defeated Alma 36-24 on Friday in the Division 3 team state quarterfinals at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo.

With the victory, the Vikings advance to take on Dundee in the Division 3 semifinals at noon on Saturday in Kalamazoo. The winner will move on to the state final match later in the afternoon.

The Vikings will be looking for a measure of revenge against Dundee. The two teams met in the Division 3 state semifinals in 2016 and 2018, with Dundee victorious in both matchups.

On Friday, Whitehall fell behind Alma 24-16 before winning the final four matches to steal the victory. Winners in those key matches were Ira Jenkins (160) via forfeit, Trenton Blanchard (171) by technical fall, Kayleb Venema (189) by pin and Allen Powers (215) by decision.

Joining Jenkins, Blanchard, Venema and Powers as winners for the Vikings were Jarrean Sargeant (285), Sam Baustert (112), Max Brown (125) and Marco Moore (140).
