The Muskegon Heights Tigers got a 30-point performance from Kevon Washington, and double-figure scoring from four other players, in their 66-56 victory over New Buffalo on Tuesday in the boys Division 4 regional opener at Mendon High School.

The win advances the Tigers (13-7) into the regional finals against Wyoming Tri-unity Christian on Thursday at 6 p.m. The winner will advance to the state quarterfinals.

The Tigers led 14-12 after the first quarter and 34-30 at halftime. In the third quarter, Muskegon Heights fell behind 44-38, then went on an 8-0 run to close out the quarter with a 46-44 lead.

Arlester Sims provided the spark for Muskegon Heights’ third-quarter run, scoring six of his 12 points.

Washington stepped up for the Tigers in the fourth, scoring six key points during a 10-0 run that put the his team up for good.

Lamonta Townsend also had 12 points for the Tigers, as well as eight rebounds. Romeo Blackshire added 10 points and six steals while Ernie Helms had 10 rebounds.

The Tigers had 15 steals as a team.

Koda Parmley scored a game-high 31 points for New Buffalo.
