The West Michigan Whitecaps used an eighth inning rally on Sunday to defeat South Bend 7-3 and even their record to 2-2 overall on the season.

With the scored tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, John Valente brought home Wenceel Perez and Nick Ames on an RBI single to give the Whitecaps a 5-3 lead.

Later in the inning, Christopher Proctor hit a sacrifice fly to score Valente while Ulrich Bojarski doubled home Avery Tuck giving the Whitecaps a 7-3 lead.

Ames and Tuck each had three hits on Sunday to lead the West Michigan offense while Valente had two hits of his own. Tuck finished with two RBIs while Valente also had two RBIs.

Yaya Chentouf picked up the win for the Whitecaps, pitching a clean final two innings while also striking out two hitters.

The Whitecaps will travel to Lansing on Monday to begin a four game series with the Lugnut which will begin at 6:05 p.m. Monday night.
