Girls tennis roundup: Fruitport, Mona Shores, Ludington, Norse post impressive wins

The Fruitport girls tennis team downed Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian 5-3 on Tuesday in non-conference action, then followed up with an impressive 5-3 win over Jenison in O-K Black Conference play on Wednesday.

Against NorthPointe Christian, The Trojans got most of their points by sweeping the singles matches. Winners for Fruitport were Trinity Busscher (No. 1), Haleigh Winskas (No. 2), Olivia Parling (No. 3) and Hannah Kelly (No. 4).

The Trojans only won one doubles match, but it sealed the team’s victory. Winning at No. 2 doubles were Hannah Labash and Hope Busscher.

Singles were again a strong point for Fruitport against Jenison. Busscher, Winskas, Parling and Kelly all posted victories at 1 through 4 singles, respectively. The No. 2 doubles team, this time comprised of Kaitlyn Leatherman and Julia Nichols, also won its match.

Fruitport is now 3-1 on the season.

O-K BLACK

MONA SHORES 7, KENOWA HILLS 1 – The Sailors recorded their second win of the season in O-K Black Conference play, snagging three of four singles matches and all four doubles matches.

Winners for Mona Shores were Sophie Scheuerle (No. 1 singles), Lydia Sowles (No. 2 singles), Paige Judson (No. 3 singles), Riley Trygstad and Makyla Lieb (No. 1 doubles), Emily Lieb and Linden Gentzkow (No. 2 doubles), Michaela Sander and Holli Brus (No. 3 doubles), and Gabbi Alderman and Lena Peisker (No. 4 doubles).

All the winning Sailors captured their victories in straight sets.

LAKES 8

LUDINGTON 8, WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 0 – The Orioles captured six victories in straight sets, one in three sets, and one by forfeit, in the conference matchup.

Winning singles players for Ludington were Lindsey Holmes (No. 1), Isabella Vandenheuvel (No. 2) and Kelly Mcpike (No. 3). The Orioles won the fourth flight by forfeit.

Doubles winners were Carmen Wardle and Hailee Ward (No. 1), Grace Taranko and Karlee Plamondon (No. 2), Tess Bradley and Lillian Kolb (No. 3), and Rachel Sarto and Alexandra Marineau (No. 4).

NON-LEAGUE

NORTH MUSKEGON 8, FREMONT 0 – The Norse won all but one of the games played in the match, and ever set..

Winning in singles for North Muskegon were Alicia Hall (No. 1), Izzy Reynolds (No. 2), Noa Bowen (No. 3), and Lindsay Bliss (No. 4).

Winning doubles matches for the Norse were Belles Hardman and Lily Montgomery (No. 1); Sarah Muzzy and Carina Steketee (No. 2); Gabby Gaston and Greta Goszkowicz (No. 3); and Liz McNally and Lindsey Piper (No. 4).

GRANT 6, WHITEHALL 2 – Whitehall struggled in the non-conference event, winning only two matches. Taking home victories for the Vikings were (Kalysta Coats (No. 4 singles) and McKenna Hepler and Jaden Mikkelson (No. 1 doubles).
