The Muskegon Lumberjacks ran into a fired-up bunch of Dubuque Fighting Saints on Tuesday, and missed their opportunity for a playoff sweep.

The Fighting Saints scored four goals in the first period and went on to down the Jacks 5-1 in Game 3 of their USHL Eastern Conference semifinal playoff series at the Mystique Ice Center in Dubuque.

The Lumberjacks lead the series two games to one. Game 4 will be in Dubuque on Wednesday night. A fifth and final game, if necessary, will be in Muskegon on Saturday.

Dubuque’s JD Greenway led the first period scoring parade with a pair of goals, while Dylan Jackson and Bram Sheerer added one apiece.

Ty Jackson put Dubuque up 5-0 with a second-period goal.

Muskegon’s only goal came from Cam McDonald in the third period. Ryan Savage and Oliver McDonald assisted.

The Lumberjacks had a 44-26 advantage in shots on goal, but Dubuque goalie Matthew Thiessen handled the workload and collected the victory.

Muskegon goalie Brandon Bussi stopped 19 of 23 shots while backup Ryan McInchak stopped two of three.
