Tuesday softball roundup: Spring Lake rolls past Coopersville in league contest

The Spring Lake softball team recorded a doubleheader sweep in O-K Blue Conference action on Tuesday, defeating Coopersville 8-0 and 12-2.

Leading Spring Lake in Game 1 was Leah Vaughan, who struck out 15 batters. Jenna Core and Alicia Mumby led the Lakers with two hits and two runs scored each.

In the nightcap, pitcher Avery Flynn got the win for the Lakers. Molly Poole had four hits while Core added three.

The Lakers improved to 12-2 overall and 4-0 in the O-K Blue Conference play.

O-K Black Conference

MONA SHORES 1-5, REETHS PUFFER 9-2 –  The Rockets won the opener led by Makayla Thompson, who picked up the win on the mound while striking out 14 batters through seven innings.

Abigayle Michelson paced the Reeths-Puffer offense with four hits and three RBIs.

The Sailors were paced in the opener by Bailey Graham with two hits and an RBI.

Mona Shores bounced back in the nightcap led by Madison VanEtten, who struck out 15 batters.

Shelby Savacool led the Sailors with a two-run double while teammate Lauren Beemer had an RBI single.

Mona Shores is now 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the O-K Black Conference play.

FRUITPORT 15-15, GR UNION 0-0- The Trojans picked up an O-K Black
Conference doubleheader sweep. Rachel Paulson earned the win from the mound in
the opener while Cassie Kohnke recorded the victory in the nightcap.

HOLTON 17-17, LAKEVIEW 0-1 – Kylie Gould’s perfect game led the Red Devils past Lakeview in
their opener of a twin bill. Gould recorded six strikeouts through three
innings.

Gould also led the team offensively, recording three hits and five RBIs while Gianna Reed followed with three hits and an RBI.

In the nightcap, pitcher Grace Eppard picked up the win. Madi
Bossett led the offense with three hits and three RBIs. Kaylie Piper followed
with three hits and two RBIs.

Holton improved to 8-2 on the season.

HESPERIA 11-19, KENT CITY 1-17- Ellie Palmer pitched the win for the
Panthers in Game 1, striking out 10 batters through five innings.

Alyssa Miller led Hesperia offensively in the opener with three hits, two being home runs, along with adding three RBIs. Emily Bayle had a three-run homerun and Palmer added a two-run homerun.

In Game 2, pitcher Lynnsey Tinkham got the win. Tinkham also led the offense with three hits and two RBIs. Palmer recorded two hits and four RBIs while Caragan Frees had two hits and two RBIs.

Hesperia improved to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the CSAA Silver play.

LAKES 8 CONFERENCE

LUDINGTON 4-5, MANISTEE 3-6 – In Game 1, Megan Mulherin recorded the win on the mound, striking out 12 hitters through seven innings.

Taylor Makowicki led the Orioles with three hits and a run scored, Mackenzie Howe recorded two hits and two runs and Khyler Villarreal had the game-winning RBI.

In the nightcap, Olivia VerStrat suffered the loss. Saige Philips led the team with two hits and an RBI.

Ludington is now 2-6 overall and 1-1 in league play.

WEST MICHIGAN CONFERENCE

RAVENNA 10-4, MONTAGUE 0-8- The Ravenna softball team split its doubleheader Tuesday night
in West Michigan Conference play.

In Game 1, Makayla Hogan recorded the win, striking out four.

Laney Mabrito, Karly Hanson, and Taylor Maycroft each had two hits for the Bulldogs while Madison Carroll suffered the loss for Montague.

In the nightcap, Bailey Belinger struck out eight batters and
got the win on the mound for the Wildcats while Madison Diamond and Chloe Wynn
each had two hits.

Hogan recorded the loss for Ravenna in Game 2.

HART 9-9, NORTH MUSKEGON 19-3 – The Pirates split a West Michigan Conference on Tuesday.

In the opener, Nicole Rockwell recorded the loss on the mound.

Cassidy Copenhaver led the Hart offense with two hits and a homerun. Rockwell, Sam James-Witteveen and Rylee Noggle had two hits apiece.

In the nightcap, Finley Kistler got the win on the mound, striking
out 11 hitters. Kloe Dumonte recorded a double and a homerun. Myryssa Hopkins
added a two-run homerun and Rockwell added two hits.

NON-LEAGUE

WMCC 16-26, MUSKEGON 1-3 – The West Michigan Christian/Catholic softball team rolled past
Muskegon Tuesday night recording the doubleheader sweep.

In the opener, Sophia Hawke picked up the win on the mound, striking out six batters. Kelcea Waller led the team with two hits and a homerun.

In the nightcap, Maria Sanocki had seven strikeouts for the win. Waller again led the offense with three hits and a triple.
