The West Michigan Whitecaps defeated Lansing 7-3 on Thursday to win their third straight game and three of four games in their series at Lansing.

In the top of the second inning, Ulrich Bojarski hit his second home run of the season, scoring Nick Ames and giving the Whitecaps a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth,the lead was extended to 3-0 when Jose King singled home Parker Meadows.

After Lansing cut the Whitecaps lead to 3-1 in the fifth, the Whitecaps added three insurance runs in the seventh inning to make the score 6-1. Jeremiah Burks tripled home Christopher Proctor before Nick Ames doubled home Burks. Later in the inning, Meadows doubled to center field, bringing home Ames.

The Lugnuts were able to cut the Whitecaps lead to 6-3 before Meadows singled home Ames in the top of the ninth, giving West Michigan a comfortable 7-3 lead that ultimately was the final score.

Meadows led the Whitecaps hitters on Thursday with three hits and two RBIs while also scoring one run. John Valente and Ames each had two hits of their own while Ames also walked three times, scored three times, and added an RBI.

Wilkel Hernandez picked up the win on the mound, allowing one run on six hits while striking out five in five innings of work.

Yaya Chentouf picked up his second save of the year, allowing one hit and striking out three over two innings of work.

The Whitecaps are now 5-3 on the season and will return home on Friday to begin a three-game series against Great Lakes. First pitch for Friday is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
