The Muskegon Catholic baseball team remained undefeated with a hard-fought 5-3 non-conference victory over Fremont on Wednesday.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 5-0 lead, then held on as the Packers scored three late runs. Pitcher Max Price got the win, scattering eight hits while striking out seven. Carson St. Amour had two doubles and a single for MCC while Josh Holden and Tom Kartes each added two hits.

Payten Mansfield had three hits for Fremont.

Muskegon Catholic is now 5-0 on the season. Fremont fell to 4-2.

REED CITY 8-2, HOLTON 4-5 – Holton managed to salvage the doubleheader split with a victory in Game 2.

Nathan Slowik picked up the win on the mound for Holton. Kaleb Kitchka, Chip Wright, and Cody Wright all had two hits on the day for the Red Devils.

Holton is now 2-2 on the season.

NEWAYGO 11, HESPERIA 10 – Hesperia led 11-6 going into the bottom of the seventh (final) inning, but gave up five runs to lose a non-league heartbreaker.

Jacob Klemundt, Logan Balkema and River Montague each had multi-hit games for Hesperia, which outhit Newaygo 12-6.

Newaygo led the second game 5-1 when it was called due to darkness after two innings.

TUESDAY

MONTAGUE 15-15, HART 0-7 – The Wildcats improved to 4-0 overall after sweeping their first two conference games of the season.

In the opener, Luke Marsh threw a complete game, one-hit shutout and hit a two-run double. Sebastian Archer scored three runs. Michael McKeown went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and scored two runs. Asher Erickson had a double, an RBI and scored a run.

In Game 2, Matt Lipka got the win in relief, giving up two runs in 3 1/3 innings. McKeown went 3-for-4 with one RBI and scored three runs. Johnny Monette had a two-run double while Hunter Mosher went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run.
