The West Michigan Whitecaps blew a late 2-0 lead on Saturday, ultimately falling 3-2 at home to Lake County.
In the third inning, Nick Ames brought home Parker Meadows on a RBI ground out to give the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead.
Later in the inning, Sam McMillan hit a RBI single to left field to score Ulrich Bojarski, giving West Michigan a 2-0 lead.
That 2-0 lead held until the ninth inning when Lake County scored three runs, which gave Lake County a 3-2 lead it wouldn’t surrender.
Wenceel Perez led the Whitecaps with two hits on the day while McMllan had one hit and a RBI.
Whitecaps starting pitcher Carlos Guzman took a no-decision, striking out nine and walking four while surrendering no hits over five innings.
With the loss, the Whitecaps fall to 9-12 overall and four and a half games behind Lake County for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division standings.
The Whitecaps and Lake County will wrap up their four-game series with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. at Fifth Third Ballpark on Sunday.
