The West Michigan Whitecaps lost their fourth straight game on Tuesday with a 5-2 loss to the Lansing Lugnuts.

After falling behind 1-0, the Whitecaps tied the game at 1-1 in the third when John Valente singled home Jose King.

The Whitecaps then fell behind 2-1 in the top of the fourth but responded with a run in the bottom of the inning when Avery Tuck singled home Jordan Pearce, making the score 2-2.

Lansing scored three runs in the seventh inning which made the score 5-2 and ultimately was the final score.

Overall, the Whitecaps offense was limited to five hits on the night. Valente and Tucker each had a hit and a RBI to lead the Whitecaps.

Starting pitcher Kacey Murphy took a no-decision, allowing one earned run on three hits while also striking out four in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Reliever Sandel De La Cruz took the loss, allowing three earned runs on three hits over two innings.

The Whitecaps are now 5-7 on the season and will finish their homestand on Wednesday at noon Wednesday when they host Lansing for the series finale.
