The West Michigan Whitecaps went 1-1 on Friday in a doubleheader at Fort Wayne, defeating the Tin Caps 12-3 before falling 2-1 in the night cap.

In Game 1, The Whitecaps exploded for seven runs in the first two innings.

In the first inning, Reece Hampton scored on a Fort Wayne error before Parker Meadows singled home Wenceel Perez and John Valente. Ulrich Bojarski capped off the inning by scoring on a wild pitch, giving the Whitecaps a 4-0 lead.

In the second inning, Bojarski doubled home Perez and Valente before Bojarski scored himself on a wild pitch later in the inning.

In the third inning, the Whitecaps lead extended to 8-0 when Hampton hit a triple that scored Jose King.

After Fort Wayne scored two runs in the sixth inning, the Whitecaps responded with a Parker Meadows home run, a Perez sacrifice fly, a John Valente RBI ground out and a Ulrich Bojarski RBI double to make the score 12-2.

Fort Wayne scored a lone run in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score 12-3.

In Game 2, Fort Wayne scratched across two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead.

The Fort Wayne lead was cut to 2-1 in the third inning when King doubled home Perez.

However, the Whitecaps were unable to score any more runs, ultimately falling 2-1.

With the split double header, the Whitecaps are now 6-9 overall and tied with Great Lakes for last place in the Midwest League Eastern Division, three and a half games behind first place Lake County.

The Whitecaps will close out their series in Fort Wayne on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
