The West Michigan Whitecaps comeback effort fell short on Saturday night with a 10-7 loss at South Bend.

After three innings on Saturday, the Whitecaps trailed 8-1 and ultimately got the score close to 8-7 before falling 10-7.

With the score 8-1 in the fifth inning, Parker Meadows scored when John Valente was hit by a pitch, making the score 8-2.

Later in the inning, Avery Tuck and Jeremiah Burks scored on a Wenceel Perez RBI single and Jose King scored on a Ulrich Bojarski single making the score 8-5.

In the sixth inning, Tuck hit a two-run home run making the score 8-7.

South Bend scored twice in the sixth inning to increase their lead to 10-7 which was ultimately the final.

Bojarski led the Whitecaps three hits and one RBI while Tuck had two hits and two RBIs.

The Whitecaps are now 18-30 overall on the season and 13 games behind Great Lakes for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

South Bend and West Michigan will continue their series on Sunday at 7:05 p.m.
