The West Michigan Whitecaps split a doubleheader with Fort Wayne on Wednesday afternoon, losing 1-0 before winning 10-1.

In Game 1, the lone run of the game came in the sixth inning when Michael Curry of Fort Wayne scored on a Blake Hunt RBI single.

Each team was held to four hits in the game.

Whitecaps starter Wilkel Hernandez took the tough luck loss, allowing one run on four hits and striking out eight over 5 and 2/3 innings.

In Game 2, the Whitecps offense exploded for six runs in the third inning and four runs in the fifth inning.

Wenceel Perez, Christopher Proctor, Ulrich Bojarski, Reynaldo Rivera and Parker Meadows all had two hits to pace the Whitecaps offense. Bojarski also had three RBIs on the day.

Robbie Welhaf picked up the win on the mound, allowing one unearned run on three hits and striking out five over five innings of work.

The Whitecaps are now 19-34 overall on the season and will wrap up their series against Fort Wayne on Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
