The Spring Lake softball team won its fifth straight district championship with a 10-5 victory over Kenowa Hills in the Division 2 titleĀ game on Monday.

Spring Lake got on the board first when Jenna Core belted a three-run homer in the third inning. The Lakers added a single run in the fourth, three runs in the fifth, and three in the sixth to close out their scoring.

Core finished with two hits and four RBIs and scored three runs. Vaughan added two hits and also pitched the win in Game 2, scattering four hits and striking out 10.

On the day Vaughan picked up two victories, struck out 25, allowed only five hits and walked one. Core totaled four hits, including two home runs, scored five runs and had five RBIs.

Spring Lake reached the finals by beating Coopersville 2-0 in the first round. Vaughan was dominating from the circle, allowing only one hit and one walk and striking out 15.

Spring Lake, now 32-4 on the season, will play Portland in the regional opener on Saturday at noon at Grand Rapids South Christian.
