The West Michigan Whitecaps allowed a five run eighth inning in a 9-3 loss at home to Dayton on Thursday night.
With the loss, the Whitecaps fall to 20-40 overall and to last place in the Midwest League Eastern Division standings.
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, the Whitecaps scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead. In the inning, Avery Tuck scored on a Kingston Liniak RBI single, Parker Meadows scored on a passed ball and Liniak scored on a Jose King RBI single.
The 3-1 Whitecap lead held until Dayton scored two runs in the fifth inning to tie the game 3-3.
Dayton went on to score one run in the seventh and five runs in the eighth inning to ultimately win 9-3.
Liniak and King each had one hit and one RBI to lead the Whitecaps while starting pitcher Wilkel Hernandez took a no-decision. Hernandez sturkc out nine batters and allowed three earned runs on four hits over five innings.
The Whitecaps will open up a four game series at Bowling Green on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
