A first inning run was the difference on Thursday night in a Whitecaps 1-0 home loss to Quad Cities.

Cesar Salazar of Quad Cities singled home Grae Kessinger to give Quad Cities a 1-0 lead in the first inning that ultimately held up as the final score.

Andre Lipcius led the Whitecaps with two of the five hits that West Michigan had on the night.

Robbie Welhaf took the hard luck loss on the mound for the Whitecaps, allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out four over six innings of work.

The Whitecaps are now 29-60 overall on the season and 8-12 in the second half of the season, six games behind Bowling Green for first piace in the Midwest League Eastern Division second half standings.

Quad Cities and West Michigan will continue their series on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
