The West Michigan Whitecaps returned home on Thursday night and defeated South Bend 6-4 for their seventh win in their last 10 games.
With the victory, the Whitecaps improve to 7-7 in the second half, four games behind Bowling Green for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division second half standings.
The Whitecaps fell behind 2-0 until the third inning when Andre Lipcius singled ome Clark Brinkman, making the score 2-1.
After South Bend increased the lead to 3-1, West Michigan responded in the sixth inning with Nick Quintana doubling home Lipcius and Zach Malis doubling home Quintana and Dayton Dugas to give the Whitecaps a 4-3 lead.
South Bend tied the game up at 4-4 in the eighth inning on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the eighth, Malis brought home Quintana with a sacrifice fly before Dugas scored on a wild pitch to give the Whitecaps a 6-4 lead.
Malis led the Whitecaps with three RBIs while Lipcius, Quintana and Dugas all had two hits in the victory.
The Whitecaps will wrap up their series with South Bend on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
