The West Michigan Whitecaps ended their series with South Bend on Friday with a 5-1 home loss.

South Bend scored first in the game, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second before West Michigan responded in the home half of the inning. Wenceel Perez singled home Parker Meadows in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1.

South Bend scored one run in the fourth, one in the fifth and two runs in the seventh to take a 5-1 lead which was ultimately the final.

Perez led the Whitecaps with one hit and one RBI on the night.

The Whitecaps are now 28-56 overall and 7-8 in the second half of the season, four games behind Bowling Green for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division second half standings.

On Saturday, the Whitecaps will travel to Bowling Green for a series beginning at 7:35 p.m.
