The West Michgian Whitecaps split a doubleheader with Lake County on Monday, losing 5-1 in Game 1 before winning Game 2 5-1.

In Game 1, the Whitecaps fell behind 2-0 before Clark Brinkman hit a solo home run to put West Michigan on the board, making the score 2-1.

Lake county responded with one run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to ultimately make the final score 5-1.

The Whitecaps were limited to only two hits in the game with Wenceel Perez and Brinkman each collecting one hit.

In Game 2, the Whitecaps took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Andre Lipcius singled home Sam McMillan.

Lake County responded with a run in the fifth to tie the game at 1-1.

In the home half of the fifth inning, McMillan scored on a Lipcius walk, Brinkman scored on a Nick Quintana walk, Ulrich Bojarski brought home Perez on a sacrifice fly and Lipcius scored on a fielders choice groundout by Dayton Dugas making the score 5-1.

McMillan led the Whitecaps with two of the teams five hits in the game.

West Michigan is now 26-54 overall and 5-6 in the second half, four games behind Bowling Green for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division second half standings.

On Tuesday the Whitecaps will travel to South Bend with first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
