The Kent City football team defeated Newaygo on the road Friday night in its season opener, notching a 21-14 victory.

The Eagles scored all of their points in the first half, including seven in the first quarter, and led 21-0 at halftime. All three Kent City touchdowns were courtesy of Max Hudson. Despite giving up a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters, the Eagles defense kept Newaygo from tying things up.

Kent City quarterback Eli Carlson threw for 68 yards on the night while rushing for 23. Hudson was the leading rusher with 72 yards.

On defense, Hudson led the team with 10 tackles and two sacks. Lane Dailey followed with seven tackles and one sack.

The Eagles will host Orchard View next Friday.
