The Western Michigan Christian volleyball team opened up the season with a tournament victory at the WMVOA Scholarship tournament on Friday.

The Warriors went 6-0, defeating Grant, North Muskegon, Greenville, Cedar Springs, Pewamo Westphalia and Zeeland West.

Alisha Leffring paced the Warriors with 16 aces, 23 kills and 10 blocks while teammate Claudia Kingma added 14 aces and 21 kills. Taylor Folkema had 16 aces and 16 digs.

Holton goes 1-2 in tournament play – The Holton volleyball team went 1-2 over the weekend, losing to Ravenna 25-20, 25-13 and Oakridge 25-21, 25-22 before beating Chippewa Hills 25-19, 27-26

Paige Byrnes led the Red Devils with five aces, 21 assists and 13 digs while Ally Seiber added 10 digs and nine kills.

Spring Lake struggles in Reeths-Puffer Tournament – Spring Lake went 1-4 on Saturday, losing to Mona Shores 25-16, 25-13, North Muskegon 19-25, 25-20, 15-7, Coldwater 25-18, 13-25, 15-12 and Mona Shores again 25-19, 25-16. The Lakers did defeat Reeths-Puffer 13-25, 25-15, 15-13.

Abbi Perkins had a strong day with 34 kills and seven blocks. Alicia Mumby added 22 kills and eight blocks on the day.

Grand Haven goes 5-1 in Lakeshore Classic – The Buccaneers went 5-1 on Saturday, falling to Lowell in the tournament finals after defeating Grand Rapids Catholic Central, Traverse City West, Byron Center, Novi and Ann Arbor Skyline earlier in the day.

Ashley Slater had 64 kills, 11 aces and 23 digs on the day for Grand Haven while Sarah Knoll added 24 kills and five digs.

After the day, Grand Haven is now 10-1 on the season.

Montague Wins Silver WMVOA Tournament – The Montague volleyball team took down Greenville, Hopkins, Kenowa Hills, Pewamo Westphalia, Calvin Christian and Grant on Saturday in route to going 6-0.

The Wildcats were led by Reilly Murphy with 61 kills and 26 digs. Ally Hall had 39 kills, 12 digs and nine aces for Montague.

HESPERIA GOES 1-2 – The Hesperia volleyball team opened its season going 1-2 on Saturday, losing to Western Michigan Christian and Covenant Christian but beating Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian.

Emily Bayle had 1 kills and 18 digs while Isabelle Rumsey had seven aces and 10 kills.
