The Ravenna football team opened the 2019 season with a heartbreaking 22-20 non-conference loss at home to Hopkins on Thursday night.

After Hopkins took an 8-0 lead late in the first quarter, Ravenna quickly responded with a 65-yard passing touchdown from Conner Kilbourne to Josh Cox, making the score 8-6 with 1:26 left in the first quarter.

Hopkins extended its lead to 14-6 with 3:34 left in the first half, before a 10-yard touchdown pass from Kilbourne to Cox with 15 seconds remaining left the score tied 14-14 at halftime.

Hopkins added a touchdown in the third quarter, making the score 22-14.

The Bulldogs responded only 15 seconds later when Dalton Hogan broke loose for a 75-yard touchdown run. The two-point attempt was no good, keeping the score 22-20 in favor of Hopkins with 6:27 left in the third quarter.

There was no scoring in the fourth quarter.

Kilbourne led the Bulldogs with 243 yards and two touchdowns on 16-for-24 passing. Hogan finished with 106 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries.

Cox totaled 141 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches. The Bulldog defense was led by Dominic Mabrito with 10 tackles and Nick Ely with seven tackles.

Ravenna will next travel to North Muskegon to open up conference play next Friday.
