The Grand Haven football team dropped a close game against Rockford Friday night, falling 19-14 in an O-K Red Conference game.

The Buccaneer defense struggled early, giving up a touchdown, field goal and safety in the first quarter. Grand Haven trailed 12-0 after the first quarter.

Grand Haven scored the lone touchdown in the second quarter on a six-yard run by Connor Worthington to make the score 12-7 at halftime.

The Bucs defense gave up another touchdown in the third quarter and trailed 19-7 at the end of the stanza.

Grand Haven’s quarterback Alex Kapala connected with L.J. Sandoval on a 17-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 19-14.

Kapala finished the game with 106 yards passing on eight completions, while Worthington led the team with 85 yards rushing on 16 carries.

The Buccaneers are now 1-4 on the season. They will host East Kentwood next week.
