Despite leading after the first quarter, the Grand Haven football team ended up falling to Traverse City West 19-7 in a road game on Friday.

The Bucs’ Connor Worthington kicked off the night’s scoring with a 71-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. But Grand Haven’s defense struggled in the second frame, giving up two scores to trail 13-7 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter,Traverse City West capped things off with a touchdown in the fourth.

Grand Haven quarterback Alex Kapala passed for 59 yards on the night while Braydon Franz led the receivers with 44 yards.

Aidan Cooper and Will McWatters paced the Buccanner defense with five tackles apiece.

The Bucs fell to 1-1 on the season. They travel to Hudsonville next week.
