The North Muskegon football team stayed in the playoff hunt with a convincing 49-0 victory over Hart on Friday in West Michigan Conference action.

The Norse did most of their damage in the first half, scoring 21 points in the first quarter and 14 in the second to take a 35-0 halftime lead.  They added two touchdowns in the second half.

Scoring on the ground for North Muskegon were Stephan Smith (runs of 6, 27 and 2 yards), Collin Schotts (33 and 38 yards) and Joe Tarrant (62 yards). Quarterback John Hayhurst connected with Brennan Pannucci for a 15-yard touchdown pass for the other score.

Smith totaled 112 yards rushing, Schotts finished with 86 and Tarrant had 71. Hayhurst completed two passes for 45 yards and rushed for another 55.

Leading the North Muskegon defense were Joe Flynn with 4.5 tackles, Tarrant and William Gallo with 3.5 apiece and Brenden Moat with 3. Hayhurst inerecepted a pass.

Hart quarterback Braeden Carskadon completed four passes for 65 yards.

North Muskegon is now 3-2 overall on the season and 2-2 in conference play. The Norse will host Whitehall in a key game next Friday.

Hart dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
