The Oakridge football team failed to score throughout the second half, but held on to a 17-9 victory over Whitehall on Friday in a West Michigan Conference.

The Eagles opened the scoring with a 35-yard field goal from Zack Campbell in the first quarter to give Oakridge a 3-0 lead.

Oakridge increased its lead with 6:03 left in the second quarter on an 11-yard touchdown run by Leroy Quinn to give the Eagles a 10-0 advantage.

Quinn added another touchdown with 1:11 left in the second quarter from four yards out.

The Eagles led 17-0 at halftime.

The Vikings cut its deficit to 17-3 after a 23-yard field goal from Taden Brandel with 1:20 left in the third quarter.

Whitehall closed out the scoring with a late third quarter touchdown by Kaleb Venema from 39-yard out to cut the deficit to 17-9. The Vikings failed to add the extra point.

Both team failed to score during the fourth quarter.

Quinn paced Oakridge with 118 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns, while Venema ran for 127 yards for the Vikings on 16 attempts.

The Eagles improved to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in league play. They will host Mason Country Central next Friday.

Whitehall drops its record to 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. The Vikings will host Ravenna next Friday.
