The Orchard View football team continued its hot start with a road win against Belding Friday night. The Cardinals held on in a high scoring affair, topping the Black Knights 42-35 to move to 4-0 on the season.

The Cardinals dominated the game on the ground, rushing for 387 yards and six touchdowns as a team.

Orchard View sprinted out to a 12-0 run behind a one-yard score by Owen Swanson and a 33-yard touchdown from Edmari Mitchell.

Belding bounced back to score the next two touchdowns and lead 13-12. The Cardinals regained the lead, 20-13, with 1:58 to play in the third quarter on a 57-yard run by Brenden Hyatt.

Each team scored 22 points in a wild fourth quarter. Swanson got things started with an 11-yard run to put OV up 28-13.

Belding scored a touchdown and converted a two-point try to pull within 28-21 before Mitchell scored his second touchdown on a one-yard dive to put OV up 36-21 with five minutes left.

The Black Knights didn’t go away, scoring again to pull with eight at 36-28. The Cardinals counted once again as Brendan Nelson punched in a five-yard touchdown to put OV up 42-28 with 2:01 to play.

Belding got in one last score in the final minutes, but fell a touchdown short in their comeback attempt.

Hyatt led the potent OV attack with 179 yards on 13 carries. Mitchell also reached the century mark with 103 yards on the ground. Swanson finished with 54 yards on nine carries. Dayton Rose led the defense with 13 total tackles, while Nelson had 12 and Hyatt made 10 stops.
