Weekend volleyball roundup: Multiple area teams take part in Fruitport Invite

The Kent City volleyball team won the Lakeview Invitational on Saturday defeating Calvary Baptist Academy and Chippewa Hills in pool play before defeating Lakeview and Ionia in bracket play.

Erica Bull had 32 kills and six blocks for the Eagles while Jasmine Weeks added 45 digs and eight aces.

Alyssa Larson had seven kills and 38 digs while Emily Bull added 10 kills and eight blocks.

Kent City is now 8-3-1 on the season.

WHITEHALL HAS SOLID PERFORMANCE – The Whitehall volleyball team went 2-1-2 on Saturday at the Fruitport Invitational, defeating Mona Shores and Montague, losing to Gull Lake and splitting with North Muskegon and Kingsley.

Rayne Thompson led the Vikings with 38 kills, 20 digs and four aces while Rileigh Thommen added 25 kills an four blocks.

Charlie Baker had 45 digs and seven aces for Whitehall while Jaden Mikkelson added 30 assists and Maggie Evans 29 assists.

Whitehall is now 6-8-2 on the season.

MUSKEGON CATHOLIC GOES 4-2 – Muskegon Catholic defeated Wellspring Prep, Fruitport Calvary, Grand River Prep and Fruitport Calvary a second time but lost to Hopkins twice.

Claire LaVigne paced the Crusaders with 104 assists and Caitlyn Fodrocy added 54 digs.

Erin Lavigne had 39 kills to lead Muskegon Catholic while Calvin’Nae Simmons had 26. Peyton Helton had 10 aces and 27 digs for the Crusaders.

FRUITPORT STRUGGLES IN HOME INVITE – The Fruitport volleyball team went 1-4 on Saturday, defeating Grant but losing to North Muskegon, Montague, Traverse City West and Western Michigan Christian.

Ellie Fisher led the Trojans with 25 kills while Jessie Paquin had 53 assists.

MONTAGUE HAS UP AND DOWN DAY – The Montague volleyball team went 2-3 on Saturday at the Fruitport Invite, defeating Fruitport and Grant but losing to Whitehall, Traverse City West and Western Michigan Christian.

Reilly Murphy led the Wildcats with 46 kills and Maddie Wynn led Montague with 57 digs.

WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN GOES 2-1-3 – The Western Michigan Christian volleyball team defeated Grant and Gull Lake, split with Fruitport, Montague, and Traverse City West but fell to Kingsley.

Alisha Leffring led the Warriors with 46 kills and 57 digs while Chloe Mitchell led with nine aces and 138 assists.

MONA SHORES HAS A ROUGH DAY – Mona Shores went 0-3-1 on Saturday at the Fruitport Invite, splitting with North Muskegon but losing to Whitehall, Gull Lake and Kingsley.

Brooke LeRoux had 26 kills to lead the Sailors while Suriya VanderOord led with 35 digs. Grace Norris had 39 assists for Mona Shores and Bri Wade had seven blocks.
