Despite being outshot, the Western Michigan Christian soccer team edged out Ludington 1-0 on Thursday at home in a key Lakes 8 Conference battle.

WMC is now 9-1-3 on the season and 4-0-2 in the very competitive conference. The Warriors are alone in first place and can capture the Lakes 8 title if they win the rest of their conference games.

The lone goal of the game came in just the third minute when Isaac VanHoeven played a ball to Charlie Alfree, who found the net and put the Warriors on top for good.

The solid defensive play of Brandon Fles, Jake Better, Brandon Eenigenburg, Isaiah Visker, Brevin Byrne, Nick Moser, and goalkeeper Jamison Goorman was vital to keeping Ludington off the scoreboard. That was not easy, because the Orioles outshot the Warriors 15-10.

Goalkeeper Kyle Wendt had nine saves for Ludington, which fell to 5-10-3 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference.
