Several area high school boys tennis teams competed last weekend in Michigan High School Athletic Association state championship tournaments at various locations around the state.

Ludington was the highest finishing team, totaling 13 points and finishing eighth overall in Division 4. Grand Haven finished 20th in Division 1 with one point while Whitehall was 15th in Division 4 with five points.

Jackson VanBergen of Whitehall advanced all the way to the No. 1 singles semifinal round in Division 4. The Ludington team of Evan McKinley and Owen Wojicki finished runner-up in No. 1 singles in Division 4.

VanBergen defeated Nicholas Deforest in straight sets and Karlton Zerlaut of Grant in three sets.

The team of McKinley and Wojicki defeated Michael Carney and Lorenzo Delgado of Grosee Ice, Jace Deshelter and Ben Vergouwe of Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian, and the team Vince Maribao and Jacob Tomlinson of University Liggett in straight sets.

McKinley and Wojicki fell to Brendan Chouinard and Ben Schmude of Traverse City St. Francis 6-1, 6-3 in the finals.
