The Shelby football team defeated Hart 36-20 on Friday night for its first win since week nine of the 2017 season when the Tigers defeated Hesperia.

The win for Shelby also marks the first West Michigan Conference win for the Tigers since defeating Hart on September 26 2014.

Lazaro Madrigal punched in a two-yard run and Lorenzo Rodriguez found Blake Greene for a 33-yard touchdown pass to give Shelby a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Madrigal punched in a one-yard run and Thomas Tanner of Hart scored on a 13-yard run to make the score 20-6 in favor of Shelby at halftime.

Neither team scored in the third quarter.

Madrigal continued his dominant night in the fourth quarter with touchdown runs of one-yard and 22-yards.

Hart quarterback Braeden Carskadon threw a five-yard passing touchdown and scored on an eight-yard run in the final quarter.

Madrigal paced the Tigers offense with 180 yards and four touchdowns on 32 carries while Lorenzo Rodriguez threw for 196 yards and one touchdown on 9-of-13 passing.

Madrigal, Travis Boughan and Jakob Whitlow all had fumble recoveries for Shelby.

Shelby is 1-7 overall and will finish its season next week with a home game against Hesperia while Hart falls to 1-7 and will travel to face St. Ignace to finish out the season.
