Last year the Hesperia volleyball team won the first district championship in program history.

Now it seems the Panthers are making a habit of it.

Hesperia captured its second straight Division 3 district title with a 3-0 victory over Shelby on Thursday. The set scores were 27-25, 25-20, 25-17.

Three Panthers led the attack – Emily Bayle with 10 kills, Rachel Romero with eight and Brooke Billings with seven. Kyra Sayer and Aria Thomas both helped run the offense with 19 and 17 assists, respectively.

Romero paced the defensive effort with 13 digs, Bayle added 10 and Thomas had seven. Isabelle Rumsey had a block.

Kendall Zoulek and Ella Olmstead led Shelby with five kills apiece. Lauren Dean had 16 assists, Defensively, Courtney Brown had three blocks and Sharon Josephson had 14 digs.

Hesperia, now 39-11-1 on the season, will host a Division 3 regional tournament next week and will play on Tuesday. The time and opponent will be announced later.
