Despite a slow start and a halftime deficit, senior quarterback Caden Broersma found a way in the fourth quarter to lead the Mona Shores football team to 20-13 win on the road over Midland
in a Division 3 pre-district game on Friday.
Tre Hatcher got the Sailors on the board first, scoring on a 56-yard touchdown run. Midland answered with a touchdown and two second quarter field goals to grab a 13-7 halftime lead.
But Mona Shores found a way to get it done and advance in the playoffs. After a scoreless third quarter, Broersma found the end zone early in the fourth on a four-yard touchdown run, giving his team a 14-13 lead. Then the QB sealed the deal with a 12-yard touchdown scamper midway through the fourth.
Hatcher dominated the ground game with 172 yards rushing on 14 carries. Broersma rushed for 72 yards while adding 59 through the air. Cam Sobish led the Sailors defense with eight tackles while Gary Humphrey and Brady Rose finished with seven tackles each.
The Sailors move on to play Midland Dow at home next week.
