The Montague girls basketball team won a close season opener 48-45 against Fremont on Tuesday night.
Braquelle Osborne led Montague with 12 points.
The Packers were led by Paige Vandenburg with 15 points and 10 rebounds while teammates Natalie Jamieson and Haley Zerlaut finished with nine and eight points, respectively.
The Wildcats will host Ravenna this Friday while the Packers will travel to Spring Lake on Thursday.
KENT CITY 51, COMSTOCK PARK 48 – The Eagles overcame a 15-point first quarter deficit to win their season opener in comeback fashion.
Junior Jenna Harrison led Kent City, knocking down nine three-pointers and recording 29 points on the game. Kenzie Bowers followed with eight points while Emma Geers had six points.
The Eagles travel to Coopersville this Thursday.
SHELBY 56, MANISTEE CATHOLIC 24 – Sharon Josephson (17 points, seven rebounds) and Kendall Zoulek (10 points, four assists) led the Tigers to a strong season-opening win.
Shelby held its opponent to less than ten first half points, holding a 33-7 lead.
Kendall Zoulek also put in a strong performance (10 points, four rebounds), while Jill Mitteer and Lauren Dean both had four points.
The Tigers 32-point win improves their record to 1-0 overall.
NEWAYGO 51, WHITEHALL 35 – The Vikings trailed 17-8 after the first quarter, 28-25 at halftime and 38-29 heading into the fourth quarter.
Rileigh Thommen led Whitehall with 14 points and five rebounds while Karina Wade added eight points.
MASON COUNTY CENTRAL 31, MANISTEE 21 – The Spartans had a slim 11-10 advantage heading into halftime before going on a 9-2 third quarter run to put the game away.
Rachel Miller led Mason County Central with a double-double, recording 10 points and 11 rebounds. Gracie VanDyke added six points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Spartans will play host to North Muskegon this Friday.
CALEDONIA 48, SPRING LAKE 38 – The Lakers kept it close, trailing 25-24 at halftime and 38-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Abbigail Perkins and Phoebe Saunders led Spring Lake with 11 points each in the defeat. Perkins also had eight rebounds, while Saunders contributed five steals and three assists.
Madalyn Lisman chipped in with six points and four rebounds, and Jennifer Judge had five points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Lakers will look to rebound against Fremont on Thursday.
HART 60, PENTWATER 21 – The Pirates led 22-6 after the first quarter and carried a commanding 41-13 advantage into halftime.
Hart only allowed three points during the third frame and led 53-16 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Pirates were led by Jayd Hovey with 25 points and four assists.
Nicole Rockwell added 16 points for Hart while Taylor Munoz recorded five assists. Rockwell and Kendall Williamson led the defense with seven steals each.
Terra Cluchey led Pentwater with nine points.
The Pirates travel to Oakridge this Friday.
GRAND RAPIDS CATHOLIC CENTRAL 42, MONA SHORES 35 – The Sailors had their struggles during the fourth quarter after leading 21-17 at halftime.
Riley Rosenthal led Mona Shores with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals, while Brooke LeRoux had nine points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Sailors will travel to West Ottawa on Friday.
