The Hart boys basketball team played tough defense down the stretch, resulting in a 52-47 non-league win against Fruitport Calvary on Saturday.

The Pirates trailed 19-10 through the opening quarter before tightening up defensively, allowing 11 points in second quarter, nine in the third and eight in the final stanza.

Hart trailed 30-25 at halftime, then outscored the Eagles 16-9 during the third quarter to take a slim 41-39 advantage heading into the final quarter. The Pirates closed out the contest with an 11-8 fourth quarter run.

Hunter Tubbs led the Pirates with 18 points on six three-point baskets made, while Ayden Beachum added nine points and 12 rebounds. Ian Mesler chipped in with 11 points.

The Eagles were paced by Ben Zelenka with 16 points and Jacob May with 15.

Hart is now 3-2 overall on the season and 0-2 in conference play. The Pirates will host Ravenna on Tuesday.
