The North Muskegon boys basketball team overcame an early deficit, defeating Mason County Central 57-49 on Thursday in a West Michigan Conference game.

The Norse trailed 12-7 at the end of the first quarter and 26-23 at halftime. North Muskegon then went on a 16-10 third quarter run to take a 39-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

North Muskegon closed out the contest with an 18-13 run.

The Norse were led by John Hayhurst with 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Joe Tarrant added 13 points while Eric Rypstra chipped in with nine points, five rebounds and four assists.

The Spartans were paced by Jeffery Carrier with 20 points and nine rebounds while Jacob Draper had 13 points.

North Muskegon is now 7-4 on the season and 5-3 in league play, while the Spartans fell to 6-6 overall and 3-5 in conference action.

WHITEHALL 53, SHELBY 30- The Vikings led 19-9 after the opening stanza, 28-14 at halftime and 44-27 through three quarters.

Andrew Durbin paced Whitehall with 15 points, while Dayton Cole added 13 points and seven rebounds. Red Watson chipped in with nine points, five assists and three steals.

The Tigers were led by Gage Landis with 11 points.

OAKRIDGE 74, HART 40- The Eagles jumped out to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter, led 35-11 at halftime and had a 53-25 advantage heading into the final stanza.

Tanner Karel paced Oakridge with 18 points, while Garrett Weaver added 10 and Kolbe Stewart had nine.

The Pirates (4-9, 0-8) were led by Iam Mesler and Zach Bitely with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
