The Whitehall girls basketball team won a West Michigan Conference game on Thursday in comeback fashion, defeating Shelby 50-48.

The Vikings led 12-7 after the first quarter and 20-16 at halftime but trailed 37-29 heading into the final stanza.

Rayne Thompson helped ice the game for Whitehall, making key free throws down the stretch and pulling down important rebounds.

The Vikings were led by Rileigh Thommen with a team-high 17 points, while Karleigh Jeffries added 11 points and six rebounds.

Shelby was paced by Lauren Dean, who scored a game-high 19 points, which included five three-point shots made.

Dean also had 10 rebounds and four assists, while both Lexi Schultz and Kendall Zoulek each added 11 points.

The Vikings improved to 6-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play, while Shelby fell to 7-5 on the season and 5-3 in league action.
