The Fremont girls basketball team closed Tuesday’s game against Newaygo with a big scoring run to steal a conference win. 

Trailing 27-21 with six minutes remaining, the Packers rattled off 14 straight points to take a 35-27 lead. Newaygo added three points at the foul line at the end of the game to bring the final score to 35-30.

The Packers are now 12-5 overall and 10-1 in league play, tied for first place in the CSAA Gold with Big Rapids. 

The game was low-scoring throughout, as Fremont led just 6-3 after the first quarter. Newaygo outscored the Packers 12-5 in the second to lead 15-11 at halftime. Heading into the fourth quarter, Fremont trailed 23-18.

Paige Vandenberg recorded a double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead Fremont. Calla Miller scored 11 points and dished out four assists and Natalie Jamieson scored nine.
