An early lead ended up giving the Kent City girls basketball team the edge in their District finals game against Morley Stanwood Friday night, defeating the team 53-47.

The Kent City girls basketball team jumped to an early eight-point lead and maintained the advantage to defeat Morley-Stanwood 53-47 on Friday to win a Division 3 district title.

The Eagles scored the first eight points in the contest and led 14-9 after the first quarter.

Kent City also led 28-21 at halftime and 38-34 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Eagles went the distance in the fourth quarter, sinking their free throws and stepping up on
defense in the final minutes to hold off Morley Stanwood.

Kenzie Bowers paced the Eagles with 19 points. Jenna Harrison and Lexie Bowers finished with 13 and 12, respectively. 

Kent City is now 22-1 overall on the season and will face Pewamo-Westphalia on Tuesday in the Division 3 regional semifinal. The game will be played at Morley-Stanwood at 5:30 p.m.
