The Spring Lake girls basketball squad advanced to the Division 2 district finals with a 44-36 win over Whitehall on Wednesday.

The first quarter ended in a stalemate, tied 13-13, then the Vikings outscored Spring Lake by a slim 5-4 margin during the second quarter to take a 18-17 halftime advantage.

Momentum shifted to the Lakers in the third quarter, outscoring Whitehall 14-7 in the third stanza to take a 31-25 lead after three.  

Abbi Perkins paced the Lakers with 13 points and five rebounds while Phoebe Saunders added nine points, seven rebounds and nine assists. 

The Vikings were led by Karleigh Jeffries with 16 points and six rebounds, while Kate Martin pitched in with 11 points.

Whitehall finished its campaign with a 12-10 overall record.

The Lakers improved to 7-13 overall and advance to play Montague in the finals at Orchard View High School.
